OUR HISTORY

2017.

OISCA stands for Organization for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advancement and is “dedicated to promoting international cooperation.” It is an international organization established in Tokyo, Japan. OISCA’s Ibaraki Group, based in Ibaraki Prefecture, had been present in Negros Occidental since 1996, and 6th dan Takeyasu Onose, is one of the Japanese nationals from OISCA who have been visiting the province for projects.

In early 2017, Onose invited local Jowash Saballero for a kendo training session at the local OISCA training center. When the Japanese kendoka went back to Japan, Saballero looked for more people who would be interested to try the martial art when the regular visitor returned to the province. By August that year, Onose sponsored the establishment of OISCA Negros Kendo Club (ONKC), dedicating one of OISCA’s facilities for Filipino kendoka to use. Onose would teach ONKC together with fellow Japanese visitors. Practices are done every Sunday at a dojo built by OISCA with Ibaraki government support.
