Visit From Kamei Toru Sensei!
Last week (Mar 14 to 17), the UKFP was very lucky to have hosted two visitors from Japan, Kamei Toru Sensei (8Dan Hanshi) and Sanada Kazuaki Sensei (7Dan). They were originally here just for a vacation, but on the request of one of our locally based sensei they graciously agreed to have keiko with us and conduct a seminar.

The activities started with keiko in the QC Dojo of IGA Kendo Club on the evening of Mar 14. Afterwards, we had a nice dinner at a local steakhouse. Then on Friday, Mar 15, we took Kamei Sensei and Sanada Sensei on a quick tour of Tagaytay and South Metro Manila.

The next two days (Mar 16 & 17) were spent in a seminar where Kamei Sensei (with Sanada Sensei helping with translations) gave us a lot of knowledge about different aspects of Kendo. It did boil down however to the fact that basics will always be important no matter what, and one can always benefit from constant refining of kihon.

Kamei Sensei also had words of wisdom for the Philippine Kendo Team and their preparations for the 19th World Kendo Championships. We have noted his advice and some of drills he taught for the team, and we look forward to implementing them in the training for the Philippine Kendo Team.

All in all, those four days was too short a time to spend with Kamei Sensei and Sanada Sensei. We look forward to future visits from them!

Please check these photos detailing some parts of their visit. There will be more to follow in the coming days, so please stay tuned!
